Ballet

Ballet is an artistic, disciplined and technical style of dance using precise and highly formalised set steps and gestures.

At BLDA, Ballet students study the Australian Teachers of Dance syllabus and it is designed to technically develop students to individually reach their full potential.

Jazz

A modern theatrical dance style, Jazz incorporates technical elements such as turns, pirouettes, jumps and kicks.

Jazz is such a broad style with many different genres offered throughout the world. It really comes down to individual teachers styles and disciplines.

At BLDA, Jazz is a fun and upbeat class with modern choreography and is an essential building block for any aspiring technical or theatrical dancer.

Commercial Jazz

Commercial Jazz or Jazz-Funk-Hip Hop is a fun and exciting class that offers a combination of the expressiveness of Jazz with the tenacity of hip hop.

A more commercialised dance genre, our Commercial Jazz class is based on combinations of movement in routines that are inspired by those you would see in music videos.

Broadway Jazz

Broadway Jazz is exactly what the title says - "Broadway"

Students will learn about Musical Theatre and the many varying styles of Jazz that have come across screens and stage, such as Chicago, Hairspray, Cats and Westside Story.

Broadway Jazz is a new style offered at BLDA and will provide students with a cultural understanding of Jazz and dance in modern society. Whilst providing them with choreography based on some of the very different Jazz techniques used on stage throughout the world.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is an expressive dance style that combines elements of several dance genres including Modern, Jazz, Lyrical and Ballet.

Contemporary dance allows students to connect the mind and body through fluid movements.

At BLDA, Ballet is required for students to enrol in Contemporary.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance blends elements of Jazz and Ballet together. It is more fluid then ballet but generally not as high-paced as Jazz.

Dancers use movement to express strong emotions such as love and joy or even anger. Lyrical dance is typically performed alongside music with lyrics, as the lyrics serve as inspiration for the dancer.

Tap

Tap dance is a type of dance characterised by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. This sound is made by shoes that have a metal "tap" plate on the heel and toe of the shoe.

Acrobatics

Acrobatics is the performance of extraordinary human feats of balance and agility. Acro is most often associated with gymnastics or circus.

At BLDA, our students safely learn stretches, acrobatic tricks, strengthening and balances.

Turns and jumps

A technical skill-based class, turns and jumps is designed in levels to assist students in building further understanding and strength toward achieving more difficult turns and jumps.

A basic fundamental of all dance genres, our turns and jumps class is for beginning and advanced students alike to learn or perfect turns and jumps as a team.
